In July and August the west-coast roads and coves are busy, but the villa's location away from the main strip means you can escape the crowds. In the shoulder months of May, June, September and October, the area is quieter and the sea is warm enough for swimming. Much of Ibiza's tourism business closes from November to April, so check the villa's opening dates if travelling outside the main season.

Getting there

Buses run from the airport to Sant Antoni and Ibiza Town, but they do not serve Cala Vedella directly, so a car or taxi is needed for the last part. The drive from the airport takes about 20-30 minutes by road.

From Ibiza Town port, where ferries from Formentera, Barcelona and Valencia arrive, the straight-line distance is 18.2 km. A taxi from the port to the villa takes about 25-35 minutes. In winter, flights and ferries are fewer, and seasonal bus services do not run; a hire car is essential then. From Sant Antoni de Portmany (8.7 km straight line), a taxi or car is the only option.

Beaches, sights and food nearby

The nearest beaches by straight line are Cala Comte (4.1 km) and Cala d'Hort (4.2 km). Cala Comte has shallow clear water and views of the offshore islets; it is popular for sunset. Cala d'Hort faces Es Vedrà, the 380-metre limestone islet that is a nature reserve with no landing allowed. The Torre des Savinar watchtower is 5.9 km away, a short walk from the coast with views of Es Vedrà. Sa Talaia, the highest point on Ibiza at about 475 m, is 6.1 km away and can be climbed on foot.

Sant Antoni de Portmany (8.7 km) has a west-facing bay, a promenade and the sunset strip. Ibiza Town (18.2 km) has the Dalt Vila walled old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999, with the cathedral and Renaissance walls. Local food includes bullit de peix (fish stew served in two courses) and arròs a banda; you can find these in the restaurants of Sant Josep and the coastal villages.

A day from Villa Lynx

Start the morning with breakfast on the patio at Villa Lynx, then drive to Cala Comte (4.1 km) for a swim in the clear, shallow water. The cove faces west, so the morning sun is behind you. After a few hours, drive to Cala d'Hort (4.2 km) for lunch at one of the simple restaurants overlooking Es Vedrà. The islet rises directly from the sea and is a nature reserve; you cannot land there, but the view is striking.

In the afternoon, walk the short trail to Torre des Savinar (5.9 km), a 18th-century watchtower on the cliff. The path is easy and gives panoramic views of the coast and Es Vedrà. Return to the villa for a swim in the outdoor pool before sunset. For dinner, drive to Sant Antoni de Portmany (8.7 km) for a meal at one of the seafront restaurants, or cook at the villa using the kitchen facilities.

Practical tips

Much of Ibiza's tourism business closes from roughly November to April; check Villa Lynx's opening dates if travelling outside the main season. July and August are the busiest months, with higher demand for cars and accommodation. The Balearic sustainable tourism tax (ecotasa) is charged per person per night by the accommodation; the rate depends on the season and the type of property, and is reduced for longer stays.
