Cala Turqueta, 5.7 km straight line, is a small white-sand cove surrounded by pine trees, reached by a track from the main road. A day from Villa Angel

Start the morning with coffee on the villa's terrace, then drive 5.7 km to Cala Turqueta. Swim in the clear water before the crowds arrive. Pack a picnic from the villa kitchen, as there is no restaurant at the cove. After lunch, drive 8 km to Ciutadella. Park outside the old town and walk through the narrow streets to the cathedral and the port. Stop for a drink at a port-side café.

In the late afternoon, drive back towards the villa and stop at Cala Macarella, 8 km from Ciutadella, for a second swim. Return to Villa Angel for a shower and a home-cooked dinner. The outdoor pool and pool bar are available for a quiet evening. If you prefer to eat out, Cala en Bosc has a few restaurants a short drive away, but booking is advisable in July and August.

Practical tips

Much of Menorca's tourism business closes from roughly November to April; check with Villa Angel for its exact opening dates. July and August are the peak months, with the hottest weather and the busiest beaches.
