In high summer the roads around Sant Rafel get busy with traffic heading to the beaches and clubs, but the villa itself is in a quiet residential polygon. In the shoulder months of May, June, September and October the pace is slower and the inland position feels more relaxed. You need a car or taxi to reach the coast, the airport or the town centre. Seasonal buses run from Sant Rafel to Eivissa and Sant Antoni, but they are less frequent outside summer.

You can also hire a car at the airport and drive yourself; the route goes through Sant Josep and then north on the main road towards Sant Antoni, turning off at Sant Rafel. Buses from the airport run to Eivissa and Sant Antoni, but you would then need a taxi from the bus stop in Sant Rafel to the villa.

Ibiza Town port is 4.6 km away in a straight line. If you arrive by ferry from Formentera, Palma or the mainland, you can take a taxi from the port to the villa. The drive from the port goes through the town and out towards Sant Rafel. Flights and ferries are fewer in winter, so check schedules if you are travelling between November and April. The villa is inland, so you need a car or taxi to reach it from either the airport or the port.

Beaches, sights and food nearby

The nearest beach by straight-line distance is Talamanca, 4.4 km away, a calm shallow bay across the marina from Ibiza Town. Playa d'en Bossa, the longest beach on the island, is 6.7 km away. Dalt Vila, the walled old town of Eivissa, is 4.5 km away and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Puig des Molins Phoenician-Punic necropolis is 4.9 km away. Sa Talaia, the highest point on the island at about 475 m, is 10.4 km away and has views over the south coast.

Sant Rafel de sa Creu itself is a small village with a few shops and bars. For food, the island specialities are bullit de peix and arròs a banda, a fish stew served in two courses, and fresh fish and rice dishes. Many restaurants in the area close from November to April, so check what is open if you travel outside the main season. The nearest supermarkets are in Sant Rafel or on the road to Eivissa.

A day from Villa Puig Blanc

Start the morning at Villa Puig Blanc with breakfast on the terrace. Drive the 4.5 km to Dalt Vila and walk the Renaissance walls, which were built in the 16th century and are part of the UNESCO site. From the top of the walled town you can see the port and the sea. Then walk down to the Puig des Molins necropolis, 4.9 km from the villa, to see the Phoenician-Punic tombs.

For lunch, drive to Talamanca, 4.4 km away, for a swim in the calm bay. In the afternoon, drive to Sa Talaia, 10.4 km away, and climb the highest point on the island for the view. Return to the villa in the evening for a barbecue by the pool. If you want to go out, Ibiza Town is 4.5 km away and has restaurants and bars open year-round.

Practical tips

Much of Ibiza's tourism business closes roughly from November to April, so check with Villa Puig Blanc whether it is open during those months. July and August are the peak months, with the hottest weather and the most visitors. The Balearic sustainable tourism tax (the ecotasa) is charged per person per night by the accommodation; the rate depends on the type of accommodation and the season, is reduced in low season and for longer stays, and children under 16 are exempt.
