Dalt Vila, the walled old town of Eivissa, is 0.6 km straight line – a walk of about ten minutes uphill. The Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins is even closer, 0.2 km away. The Ibiza Town port, with ferries to Formentera, Palma and the mainland, is 1.3 km straight line, roughly a 15-minute walk downhill.

In high summer the streets around the guesthouse are busy with people heading to the port and the old town. The area has shops, cafés and bars that stay open late. In the shoulder months of May, June, September and October the pace is quieter, and you can walk through Dalt Vila with fewer crowds. Playa d'en Bossa, the longest beach, is 2.4 km straight line – a short taxi ride or a 30-minute walk along the coast road. Talamanca is the same distance.

Rooms and facilities

Rooms are listed with air conditioning, a fan, a TV, a hairdryer and a safe. There is free wifi and internet access. The guesthouse has non-smoking rooms and a separate smoking area. A 24-hour front desk means you can check in late without arranging a meeting time. Laundry service and luggage storage are available, which helps if you arrive before check-in or have a late ferry.

The facilities are basic but cover what a traveller needs for a short stay. There is no mention of a kitchen or dining area, so you will eat out. The terrace is a shared outdoor space. Getting there

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is 5.9 km straight line from Hostal Giramundo. A taxi takes about 10-15 minutes. The airport bus runs to Ibiza Town (the bus stop near the port is about 1 km from the guesthouse); lines to Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària and the south beaches also stop in town, with more services in summer. A hire car collected at the airport gives flexibility for exploring the island, though parking in the centre can be tight.

From Ibiza Town port, 1.3 km straight line, you can walk to the guesthouse in about 15 minutes. Ferries from the port connect to Formentera (La Savina), Palma, Barcelona, Valencia and Dénia. In winter, flights and ferries are fewer, and some seasonal bus lines stop running. Check the island bus operator for current timetables.

Beaches, sights and food nearby

The nearest beach areas are Playa d'en Bossa and Talamanca, both 2.4 km straight line. Playa d'en Bossa is a long sandy beach with shallow water and a line of bars and clubs behind it. Talamanca is a calm, shallow bay across the marina from Ibiza Town, good for a swim without leaving the city. The walk to either takes about 30 minutes, or a short taxi ride.

The Puig des Molins necropolis is 0.2 km away – a Phoenician-Punic burial site that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing. Dalt Vila, with its 16th-century walls and cathedral, is 0.8 km straight line. The Ses Salines dunes, 8.3 km straight line, are best reached by car or taxi. Island food includes bullit de peix (fish stew served in two courses) and arròs a banda; fresh fish and rice dishes are common in the town's restaurants.

A day from Hostal Giramundo

Start the morning with a walk up to Dalt Vila, 0.8 km away, to see the Renaissance walls and the cathedral before the heat builds. From the top you can look out over the port and across to Formentera. Walk back down through the narrow streets and past the Puig des Molins necropolis, 0.2 km from the guesthouse, for a quick look at the ancient burial chambers.

In the afternoon, take a taxi or walk to Playa d'en Bossa, 2.4 km away, for a swim and lunch at one of the chiringuitos. Return to the guesthouse to freshen up, then walk down to the port, 1.3 km away, for a ferry to Formentera or just to watch the boats come in. Evening could be a stroll along the port front or a drink on the guesthouse terrace.

Practical tips

Much of Ibiza's tourism business closes roughly from November to April; check with Hostal Giramundo whether it is open in your travel dates. July and August are the peak months, with the highest demand and the busiest streets. The Balearic sustainable tourism tax (the ecotasa) is charged per person per night by the accommodation; the rate depends on the type of accommodation and the season, is reduced in low season and for longer stays, and children under 16 are exempt.
