In July and August the village is busy; in May, June, September and October it is quieter, and from November to April many businesses close.

The Consell de Formentera caps the number of visitor vehicles in high season, so check before bringing or hiring a car. A bike is enough to reach the lagoons, Sant Francesc and the south-coast beaches.

Beaches, sights and food nearby

Es Pujols beach is 0.5 km straight line from the apartments, a short walk. The Ca na Costa megalithic tomb, about 4,000 years old, is 1.2 km away and is the oldest known monument on the Pitiusas. The lagoons of Estany Pudent and Estany des Peix, part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, are 2.1 km away and good for birdwatching.

Sant Francesc Xavier, 2.9 km away, has a fortified 18th-century church and the island's main shops. The village of Sant Ferran de ses Roques is 1.8 km away. Formentera food includes peix sec (dried fish), island salads and fresh fish. Many restaurants are in Es Pujols and along the coast.

A day from Apartamentos Castaví

Start the morning with a walk to Es Pujols beach, 0.5 km away, for a swim before the day boats arrive. Then cycle 1.2 km to the Ca na Costa megalithic tomb, an ancient stone monument on a low hill. From there, continue 2.1 km to the lagoons of Estany Pudent and Estany des Peix to watch birds and see the salt pans.

In the afternoon, ride 2.9 km to Sant Francesc Xavier to see the fortified church and the market. Return to the apartments for a rest by the outdoor pool or on the terrace. In the evening, walk back into Es Pujols for a meal and a drink at one of the village bars.

Practical tips

Much of Formentera's tourism business closes roughly from November to April, so check with Apartamentos Castaví for its opening dates. July and August are the peak months, with higher demand and more people. The Balearic sustainable tourism tax (the ecotasa) is charged per person per night by the accommodation; the rate depends on the season and the type of accommodation, and is reduced for longer stays.
