Venezuelan citizens can travel to Spain, including Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, without a short-stay visa for tourism or family visits. The stay may not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies across the Schengen area. Border control may ask for proof of the purpose of the trip, accommodation and return travel. Check the official EU visa list before booking.

What the status means

Venezuelan passport holders are visa-exempt for short stays in the Schengen area. This covers Spain and the Balearic Islands. The exemption allows a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180-day period. The 180-day window is counted backwards from each day of stay.

The exemption applies to tourism, family visits and business meetings. It does not permit work or study without the correct permit. The status is set by Regulation (EU) 2018/1806. No special conditions apply for Venezuelan citizens under the current list.

Before you travel

Check that your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. It should have been issued within the previous ten years. Also check the EU travel website for the new Entry/Exit System and ETIAS, as these are being introduced.

At the border, you may need to show a return ticket, proof of accommodation and enough money for your stay. Keep copies of bookings and bank statements. The rules are the same for all visa-exempt travellers. Check the official EU sources for the latest details.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for those islands. Formentera has no airport. Fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port to La Savina. Mallorca is not covered by this site, but you can transit there by air or sea.

Ferry timetables and frequencies change with the season. Check the operator's website for current schedules. From November to April, some services run less often. At the airport, have your documents ready. Border checks may take time during peak season.

Staying longer or working

The visa-free stay is for short visits only. If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, or to work or study, you need a national visa or residence permit. Apply at the Spanish consulate in Venezuela before travelling.

The application process and requirements are set by the Spanish government. Check the official consulate website for the correct forms and procedures. Do not overstay the 90-day limit, as this can affect future travel to the Schengen area.
