Turkish citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including travel to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in the country of residence. Plan ahead, as appointments and processing take time.

What the visa status means

Turkish passport holders must obtain a Schengen short-stay visa before travelling to Spain. This visa covers the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. It permits stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. The visa is valid for tourism, visiting family or business trips.

No special conditions apply to Turkish citizens beyond the standard Schengen visa rules. The legal basis is Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, as amended. Always check the official EU visa list before applying, as rules may change.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply for the visa well before your planned departure. The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in your country of residence. You must provide a completed form, passport, travel insurance, flight itinerary and proof of accommodation. Biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) are collected.

At the border, present your passport and the visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds and the purpose of your visit. Carry copies of your accommodation bookings and return flight details. The visa does not guarantee entry; the final decision rests with the border authority.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for the Balearic Islands. Formentera has no airport; fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Mallorca serves as a transit point for connecting flights or ferries to the other islands.

When arriving by ferry from mainland Spain or Mallorca, the same Schengen visa applies. Ensure your passport is stamped on entry. Keep your travel documents accessible for inspection. The visa covers all Schengen countries, so a direct flight from another Schengen state is permitted.

Staying longer, working or studying

The Schengen short-stay visa does not permit work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, a national visa (type D) or a residence permit is required. Apply at the Spanish consulate in your country of residence before travelling.

For study, a student visa is needed. For work, a work permit and visa are mandatory. Check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain for the full list of requirements and application procedures.
