Togolese citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including visits to Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa allows stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in the applicant's country of residence. Plan ahead, as appointments and processing take time.

What the visa means

A Schengen short-stay visa permits travel to Spain and other Schengen countries for tourism, family visits or business. For the Balearic Islands, it covers Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is valid for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. It does not allow paid work or long-term stays.

The visa is issued as a sticker in the passport. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return tickets and sufficient funds. The visa does not guarantee entry; final decisions are made at the border.

Before you travel

Apply at the Spanish consulate or visa centre in the country where you legally reside. Appointments are usually required. Prepare documents: a valid passport, completed application form, recent photographs, travel insurance, flight itinerary and accommodation bookings. Additional documents may be requested.

At the border, present the passport with the visa sticker, return or onward tickets, and proof of accommodation. Border officers may ask about the purpose of the visit and sufficient funds for the stay. Keep copies of all documents handy.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for flights from mainland Spain and other Schengen countries. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point for connecting flights or ferries.

Ferries from mainland Spain also serve Ibiza and Menorca. All passengers arriving from outside the Schengen area go through passport control. Ensure the visa is valid for the entire stay. Check current entry rules before travelling.

Staying longer or working

A Schengen short-stay visa does not permit paid work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, or for work, study or residence, apply for a national visa or residence permit before travelling. The Spanish consulate provides information on the correct visa type.

The official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain lists requirements for long-stay visas. Processing times and fees differ from short-stay applications. Always check the official site for the most current rules.
