Omani citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is obtained before departure from the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Oman. No special conditions apply beyond the standard Schengen rules. Check the official EU visa list for confirmation.

What the status means

A Schengen short-stay visa allows Omani citizens to enter Spain and the other Schengen countries for tourism, family visits or business trips. The stay is limited to 90 days in any 180-day period. The visa is valid for the dates and number of entries shown on the visa sticker. It does not permit paid work or study.

The visa must be used before it expires. Overstaying or working without authorisation can lead to fines or a ban from the Schengen area. Always carry a copy of the visa and the passport when travelling.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply for the visa well before the planned trip. The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate or visa centre in the country of residence. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return flights, travel insurance and sufficient funds for the stay.

On arrival in the Schengen area, the passport is stamped. The stamp records the date of entry and the authorised length of stay. Keep the passport safe. If travelling via another Schengen country, the first point of entry handles the border check.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive international flights. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point only – ferries and flights connect it to the other islands.

At the airport or ferry terminal, present the passport with the valid Schengen visa. Border police may ask for the purpose of the visit and proof of onward travel. Keep all travel documents handy.

Staying longer, working or studying

A Schengen short-stay visa does not allow work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, or for employment or academic courses, a national visa or residence permit is required. Apply at the Spanish consulate in Oman before travelling.

Check the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the consulate for the exact requirements. Rules for long-term stays differ from the short-stay visa and involve additional paperwork.
