Rules can change: confirm on the official site before you travel. imptbalearic.es is a hotel and travel site; it does not issue visas.
Macedonian citizens holding a biometric passport can travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, without a visa for short stays. The visit may last up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies to tourism, family visits or business meetings. The passport must be biometric. Check the official EU visa list before travelling, as rules can change.
What the status means
The visa exemption for Macedonian citizens applies only to holders of a biometric passport. The passport contains an electronic chip with the holder's photograph and personal data. Non-biometric passports do not qualify for visa-free travel. The stay is limited to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This is the standard short-stay limit for the Schengen area.
The exemption covers all Schengen countries, including Spain. A trip to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera counts toward the 90-day total. The days are counted from the first entry into any Schengen country. Leaving the Schengen area resets the count only after 90 days outside. Keep track of the dates to avoid overstaying.
Before you travel
Check that the passport is biometric and valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area. It must have been issued within the previous ten years. The European Union is introducing the ETIAS travel authorisation and the Entry/Exit System (EES). These systems are not yet in operation. Check the official site travel-europe.europa.eu for the latest updates before travelling.
Book accommodation and return or onward travel before departure. Carry proof of the booking and sufficient funds for the stay. Travel insurance covering medical expenses and repatriation is strongly recommended. Border officers may ask for these documents. Check the official Spanish consulate site for any additional requirements.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive flights from many European cities. Formentera has no airport. To reach Formentera, fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Ferries run regularly, but schedules change by season. Many services stop or reduce frequency from November to April. Check the ferry company's timetable before travelling.
Mallorca is not covered by this site. It may be used as a transit point for flights or ferries to the other islands. A stop in Mallorca does not affect the visa-free status as long as the total stay in the Schengen area does not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period. Carry the passport for checks at the airport or port.
Staying longer or working
The visa exemption does not allow work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, or for paid work, study or residency, a national visa or residence permit is required. Apply at the Spanish consulate in North Macedonia before travelling. The process and requirements differ from the short-stay exemption.
Check the official site of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the consulate for the correct application procedure. The rules for long stays are not covered by the visa-free regulation. Do not assume that the exemption applies to any purpose other than short visits. Plan ahead to avoid complications.
