Rules can change: confirm on the official site before you travel. imptbalearic.es is a hotel and travel site; it does not issue visas.
Mozambican citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including visits to Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Mozambique. Plan ahead, as appointments and processing take time.
What the visa requirement means
A Schengen visa is a permit to enter and travel within the Schengen area, which includes Spain and its Balearic Islands. For a Mozambican passport holder, this visa is mandatory before travelling. It covers short stays for tourism, visiting family or business trips. The visa does not permit work or study.
The visa is valid for the dates and number of entries stated on the sticker. Travel to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera is allowed under the same visa as mainland Spain. Always carry the passport with the visa sticker when moving between islands or returning from a day trip.
Before you travel and at the border
Apply for the visa well before the planned departure. The Spanish consulate in Mozambique or the visa centre it uses handles applications. Required documents include a completed application form, a valid passport, recent photographs, travel insurance and proof of accommodation and funds.
At the border, Spanish border police may ask for the return ticket, hotel bookings and evidence of sufficient funds for the stay. They may also check that the passport is valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from Schengen. Entry is not guaranteed even with a visa.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive flights from mainland Spain and some European cities. Formentera has no airport. Travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina in Formentera. The ferry crossing takes about 30 minutes.
Mallorca is a common transit point. A flight from Mallorca to Ibiza or Menorca is a domestic Schengen flight. The visa must be valid for the entire stay. When transiting through Mallorca, the same visa rules apply. Check the ferry or flight schedule before travelling.
Staying longer, working or studying
A Schengen short-stay visa does not allow work or study. Anyone wishing to work or study in Spain must apply for a national visa or residence permit before travelling. The application is made at the Spanish consulate in Mozambique.
For stays longer than 90 days, a long-stay visa or residence permit is required. Rules change frequently. Check the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the consulate for current requirements. Overstaying a Schengen visa can lead to fines or a ban.
