Liechtensteiner citizens are covered by EU/EEA/Swiss free movement and do not need a visa to enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. A valid national identity card or passport is enough for short stays. The rules apply to all Schengen area countries. Check the official EU regulation for any updates before travelling.

What the status means in practice

Liechtensteiner citizens can enter Spain without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The same freedom applies to the entire Schengen area. A valid identity card or passport is the only travel document required. No additional permits or fees are needed at the border.

This status is based on Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, which lists Liechtenstein as a country whose nationals are exempt from visa requirements under EU/EEA/Swiss free movement. The regulation is updated periodically. Always confirm the current rules before you travel.

Before you travel and at the border

Carry a valid identity card or passport. The document must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. Border officers may ask to see proof of travel insurance, accommodation and return or onward tickets. Keep copies of these documents handy.

At the border, EU/EEA/Swiss citizens are generally processed quickly. You may be asked about the purpose and length of your stay. Answer truthfully. If you arrive by air, your identity card or passport will be checked at passport control.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for flights from mainland Spain and other European cities. Formentera has no airport. To reach Formentera, fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point for connecting flights and ferries.

Ferry services also connect the islands to each other and to mainland Spain. If you arrive by ferry, you will pass through passport control at the port. The same entry rules apply regardless of whether you arrive by air or sea.

Staying longer, working or studying

For stays longer than 90 days, or for purposes such as work or study, a national visa or residence permit is required. Apply at the Spanish consulate in your country of residence before travelling. The rules for long stays are different from short-stay visa-free travel.

Check the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the nearest Spanish consulate for the specific requirements. The site does not issue visas and cannot provide advice on individual cases.
