Liberian citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to travel to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The visa must be obtained before departure from the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in the country of residence. This site does not issue visas.

What the visa requirement means

Liberian passport holders cannot enter Spain or any Schengen country without a valid short-stay visa for tourism, family visits or business trips. The visa permits a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Border guards check the visa and passport on arrival.

The visa is issued by the Spanish consulate or a designated visa centre in the applicant's country of residence. It is not issued at the border. The application must be made well in advance of travel. The visa is valid for the dates and number of entries stated on the vignette.

Before you travel and at the border

Before applying, confirm the exact requirements with the Spanish consulate or visa centre in the country of residence. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen area and must have been issued within the previous ten years. Provide a completed application form, a recent photograph, travel insurance, flight reservations and proof of accommodation.

At the border, present the passport with the valid visa vignette. Border guards may ask for proof of sufficient funds, return or onward tickets and accommodation details. They may also check the purpose and duration of the stay. Keep copies of all documents in hand luggage.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points by air. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Eivissa or from Playa d'en Bossa to La Savina. Ferries run year-round, but schedules reduce outside the summer season.

Transiting through Mallorca is possible by air or ferry. The Schengen visa covers the entire stay in Spain, including time on Mallorca. When flying from mainland Spain or another Schengen country to the islands, there is no additional border check. Always carry the passport and visa during travel between islands.

Staying longer, working or studying

The Schengen short-stay visa does not permit work, study or long-term residence. For stays exceeding 90 days, or for employment or study, a national visa (type D) or a residence permit is required. Apply at the Spanish consulate before travelling.

Check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain or the consulate for the correct application procedure. Conditions and requirements change. The visa rules for longer stays are separate from the Schengen short-stay visa system.
