Lebanese citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to travel to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The visa is applied for at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in Lebanon. This page explains the process and what to expect when travelling to the Balearic Islands.

What the visa requirement means

Lebanese passport holders cannot enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands, without a valid Schengen short-stay visa. The visa allows stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, family visits or business. It is valid for the entire Schengen area, not only Spain.

The visa is issued by the Spanish consulate in Lebanon or the visa centre it authorises. Applications must be submitted in person. The decision is based on the documents provided and the purpose of the trip. A visa does not guarantee entry; border officials make the final decision.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply well ahead of the planned departure. The visa application requires a completed form, a valid passport, recent photographs, travel insurance, flight reservations and proof of accommodation. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area and have been issued within the previous ten years.

At the border, travellers must present the valid visa and supporting documents. Border guards may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay and a return or onward ticket. The visa does not automatically grant entry; officials verify the purpose and conditions of the visit.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for flights from mainland Spain and other Schengen countries. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. The ferry crossing takes about 30 minutes.

Mallorca is a transit point for some flights and ferries to the other islands. A Schengen visa valid for Spain covers a stopover in Mallorca. Check ferry and flight schedules before travelling, as timetables change seasonally. Many services are reduced from November to April.

Staying longer, working or studying

A Schengen short-stay visa does not permit work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, or for employment or study, a national visa or residence permit is required. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate in Lebanon.

Check the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the consulate for the correct procedure. Requirements and conditions change. The site does not issue visas and cannot advise on individual cases.
