Rules can change: confirm on the official site before you travel. imptbalearic.es is a hotel and travel site; it does not issue visas.
Latvian citizens are EU nationals and do not need a visa to enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. Travel is allowed with a valid national identity card or passport. The same rules apply for stays of up to three months. For longer stays, work or study, different requirements apply.
What the status means
Latvia is a member of the European Union. Under EU free movement rules, Latvian citizens can enter Spain without a visa. A valid identity card or passport is sufficient for travel. This applies to all Schengen countries, including Spain and its islands.
No visa application is needed for short visits. The stay is limited to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. For longer periods, a national visa or residence permit is required.
Before you travel and at the border
Carry a valid identity card or passport. The passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area and issued within the previous ten years. Border officials may ask for proof of the purpose of the visit and sufficient funds.
New EU entry and exit systems are being introduced. Check https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ before travelling for the latest requirements. No ETIAS or EES fees or start dates are confirmed at the time of writing.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive flights from many European cities. Formentera has no airport. Travel to Formentera is by ferry from Ibiza. Mallorca is a transit point only; the site does not cover it.
Ferry services run from Ibiza to La Savina, Formentera. Check current timetables and fares with the ferry operators. Many services are seasonal, especially outside summer.
Staying longer, working or studying
For stays over three months, a national visa or residence permit is needed. Apply through the Spanish consulate in Latvia or the Oficina de Extranjería in Spain. The official site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides details.
Working or studying in Spain requires the correct permit. EU citizens have the right to work but must register if staying longer than three months. Check the official site for current procedures.
