Jordanian citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa allows stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period within the Schengen area. Apply before travelling at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in Jordan. The visa is valid for all Schengen countries, but Spain is the main destination.

What the status means

Jordanian passport holders must obtain a Schengen short-stay visa before travelling to Spain. This applies to visits for tourism, family visits or business. The visa permits a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area.

The requirement comes from EU Regulation 2018/1806, which lists countries whose citizens need a visa. No special conditions apply to Jordanian citizens. The visa is issued by the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Jordan.

Before you travel

Apply for the visa well in advance of your planned departure. You must submit your application at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in Jordan. The application requires an appointment, a completed form, a valid passport, photographs, travel insurance, and proof of accommodation and funds.

At the border, carry the visa and supporting documents. Border guards may ask for proof of your itinerary, accommodation and sufficient funds. Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area and was issued within the previous ten years.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for the Balearic Islands. Formentera has no airport. Fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port to La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point only; this site does not cover it.

When arriving in Ibiza or Menorca, have your visa and travel documents ready for passport control. The visa allows entry to Spain and the Schengen area. For Formentera, the ferry from Ibiza is a domestic route, so no additional border checks apply.

Staying longer or working

The Schengen short-stay visa is for visits up to 90 days. It does not permit work or study. For longer stays, work or study, you need a national visa or residence permit from Spain. Apply at the Spanish consulate in Jordan.

Check the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the consulate for detailed requirements. Rules change, so confirm the current procedures before applying. The visa process for longer stays differs from the short-stay visa.
