Indonesian citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is obtained before departure from the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Indonesia. It permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, family visits or business. Check the official EU visa list and the consulate's website for current procedures.

What the visa requirement means

Indonesian passport holders must apply for a Schengen short-stay visa before travelling to Spain. The visa allows entry to all Schengen area countries, including the Balearic Islands, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. It is valid for tourism, visiting family or short business trips. The visa does not permit paid work or study.

The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate in Indonesia or at the visa centre it uses. Appointments are required. The consulate may ask for biometric data (fingerprints and a photograph) as part of the process. Check the consulate's website for the exact application form and list of required documents.

Before you travel and at the border

Carry your passport with the visa sticker and supporting documents when you travel. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area and must have been issued within the previous ten years. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return or onward tickets, and sufficient funds for your stay.

Two new EU border systems are being introduced: the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). These will affect how non-EU travellers register at the border. Check https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ before you travel for the latest status and requirements.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive direct flights from several European cities. Formentera has no airport. To reach Formentera, fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Ferries run year-round but are less frequent outside the main season (roughly November to April).

If you transit through Mallorca, you will clear Schengen border control at the first airport you land in the Schengen area. For example, if you fly from Jakarta to Mallorca and then to Ibiza, border checks happen in Mallorca. From there, travel between the islands is domestic and no further checks apply.

Staying longer, working or studying

The Schengen short-stay visa does not cover paid work, long-term study or residence. If you plan to work, study or stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a national visa (type D) or a residence permit from the Spanish consulate in Indonesia before you travel. The process and requirements differ from the short-stay visa.

For official information on national visas, residence permits and work authorisations, visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain or the Spanish consulate in Indonesia. Rules change, so always confirm the current procedure directly with the consulate.

How to apply

  1. Identify the Spanish consulate or visa centre in Indonesia responsible for your place of residence.
  2. Book an appointment through the consulate's online system or its authorised visa centre.
  3. Complete the Schengen visa application form and gather the required documents.
  4. Attend the appointment in person to submit the application and provide biometric data.
  5. Wait for the consulate to process the application and issue a decision.
  6. If approved, collect your passport with the visa sticker before your travel date.
