Honduran citizens can travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, without a visa for short stays. The visa exemption covers tourism and family visits for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. No special conditions apply. Check the official EU regulation for confirmation before booking.

What the status means in practice

Honduran passport holders do not need to apply for a Schengen visa before travelling to Spain for short stays. The visa exemption applies to the whole Schengen area, which includes Spain and the Balearic Islands. A stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period is permitted for tourism, visiting family or business meetings.

The status is unconditional under EU law. No additional paperwork is required at the border beyond standard entry checks. Travellers should still carry proof of the purpose of the trip, accommodation details and a return ticket.

Before you travel and at the border

Before departure, check that your passport is valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen area and was issued within the previous ten years. The EU is introducing the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). Check the official EU travel site for the latest status before you travel.

At the border, a border guard may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay, accommodation bookings and a return or onward ticket. The visa exemption does not guarantee entry; each traveller is assessed individually. Carry printed or digital copies of all documents.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for flights from mainland Spain and other European cities. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Mallorca is a common transit point for connecting flights or ferries to the other islands.

From the airports, buses and taxis serve the main towns and resorts. Ferries between the islands run year-round, though frequency is reduced outside the summer season. Check the official port authority or ferry company websites for current schedules.

Staying longer, working or studying

The 90-day visa exemption does not cover long-term stays, paid work or study. Honduran citizens who wish to stay longer than 90 days, work or study in Spain must apply for a national visa or residence permit before travelling. The application is made at the Spanish consulate in Honduras.

For up-to-date information on visa types and application procedures, visit the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain or the consulate. Processing times and requirements vary by visa category. Start the application well in advance of the planned travel date.
