Haitian citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is applied for at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in the country of residence. No special conditions apply beyond the standard Schengen rules.
What the visa status means
A Schengen short-stay visa allows a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, which includes Spain and the Balearic Islands. The visa is for tourism, visiting family or business trips. It does not permit paid work.
The visa is a single, double or multiple-entry permit, depending on the consulate's decision. Travel to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera is permitted under this visa, as they are part of Spain. The visa must be used before its expiry date.
Before you travel and at the border
Apply for the visa well before the planned trip. The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate or authorised visa centre in the country where you legally reside. You must attend an appointment in person. Documents include a valid passport, completed application form, travel insurance, flight itinerary and proof of accommodation.
At the Spanish border, present the passport with the visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay, return or onward tickets, and accommodation details. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area and issued within the previous ten years.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive flights from mainland Spain and other Schengen countries. Formentera has no airport; travel there by ferry from Ibiza, departing from the port of Eivissa. Mallorca is a transit point only for connecting flights or ferries to the other islands.
When flying from outside Schengen, you clear immigration at the first Schengen airport you enter. For example, if you fly via Madrid or Barcelona, you will be checked there before a domestic flight to Ibiza or Menorca. Keep the visa and passport accessible during all travel.
Staying longer, working or studying
The Schengen short-stay visa does not cover stays longer than 90 days in any 180-day period. For longer stays, such as for work, study or residence, you must apply for a national visa (type D) or a residence permit from the Spanish consulate before travelling.
Check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain for the latest requirements. Rules and procedures change, so confirm all details with the consulate or visa centre handling the application. The site does not issue visas.
