Rules can change: confirm on the official site before you travel. imptbalearic.es is a hotel and travel site; it does not issue visas.
Egyptian citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is applied for at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in the country where you legally reside. This page explains what that means in practice for a trip to the islands.
What the visa requirement means
A Schengen short-stay visa allows a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. It covers tourism, visiting family or friends, and short business trips. The visa does not permit paid work or study of more than 90 days.
You must apply before you travel. The visa is normally valid for the dates you request, though a multiple-entry visa may be issued if your travel history supports it. Always check the validity dates on the visa sticker before you depart.
Before you travel and at the border
Apply at the Spanish consulate or visa centre in your country of residence. You will need a completed application form, a valid passport, recent photographs, travel insurance, proof of accommodation and return flights, and evidence of sufficient funds for the stay. Biometric data (fingerprints and a photograph) are taken at the appointment.
At the border, present your passport and the visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return tickets and sufficient funds. The visa does not guarantee entry; the final decision rests with the border authority.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive direct flights from several European cities. Formentera has no airport; you fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Ibiza to La Savina. Ferries run year-round, though frequency is reduced in winter.
If you transit via Mallorca, you will pass through its Schengen border. The same visa covers the entire Schengen area, so a stop in Mallorca does not require a separate permit. Allow enough time for connections.
Staying longer, working or studying
A Schengen short-stay visa does not allow you to work or study for more than 90 days. For longer stays, paid work or formal study, you need a national visa or a residence permit from Spain. Apply at the Spanish consulate before you travel.
Check the official Spanish government website for the correct application procedure for national visas and residence permits. Rules change, so always confirm the current requirements before making plans.
