Cameroonian citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including visits to Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is applied for at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in the country of residence. This page explains the process and what to expect when travelling to the Balearic Islands.
What the visa status means
Cameroonian passport holders must obtain a Schengen short-stay visa before travelling to Spain. This visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. It covers tourism, visiting family or friends, and short business trips.
The visa does not permit paid work or study. For those purposes, a different type of national visa or residence permit is required. The visa is valid for the Schengen countries, so travel between Spain, France, Germany and others is possible within the visa's validity.
Before you travel and at the border
Apply for the visa well ahead of your planned departure. The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate or designated visa centre in the country where you legally reside. You must provide supporting documents including proof of accommodation, flight reservations and travel insurance.
At the border, present your passport and the visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay and a return or onward ticket. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area and issued within the previous ten years.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive direct flights from mainland Spain and some European cities. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point for connecting flights or ferries to the other islands.
When arriving at Ibiza or Menorca airport, proceed through passport control. The visa is checked on entry. For Formentera, the ferry crossing from Ibiza is a domestic route, but the initial Schengen entry occurs at the first Spanish airport or port you land at.
Staying longer, working or studying
The Schengen short-stay visa does not cover long-term stays, paid employment or formal study. For stays exceeding 90 days, or for work or study, you must apply for a national visa (visado nacional) or a residence permit from the Spanish consulate before travelling.
Check the official Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for the specific requirements and application process. The rules for longer stays are different from the short-stay visa and require additional documentation such as a work contract or university acceptance letter.
