Cambodian citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa to travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa is valid for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Apply at the Spanish consulate or its visa centre in Cambodia before you travel. The visa covers all Schengen countries, so you can move freely within the area.

What the status means

For a Cambodian passport holder, a Schengen short-stay visa is required for any visit to Spain up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies to tourism, family visits or short business trips. The visa is issued under Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, which lists Cambodia as a country whose citizens need a visa.

The visa is valid for the whole Schengen area, so you can enter through any Schengen country and travel to the Balearic Islands. You must apply before departure, as there is no visa-on-arrival facility. The Spanish consulate in Cambodia handles applications, often through a visa centre.

Before you travel

Start your application well ahead of your planned trip. You will need a valid passport, a completed application form, recent photos, travel insurance, proof of accommodation and return flights. The consulate may ask for evidence of funds and your travel history. Check the consulate's website for the exact list.

At the border, carry your passport and the visa sticker. Border officers may ask about your plans, so have your hotel bookings and ferry tickets ready. For the Balearic Islands, you can fly directly to Ibiza or Menorca, or fly to Mallorca and take a ferry. For Formentera, fly to Ibiza and take a ferry to La Savina.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for the islands. Both have border control for Schengen arrivals. If you arrive from outside Schengen, you will pass through passport checks. Keep your visa and travel documents accessible.

Formentera has no airport. You must fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port. Mallorca is a transit point only; you can fly there and connect to Ibiza or Menorca, but you must have a valid Schengen visa. Ferries between the islands are frequent in summer, but check schedules as they change.

Staying longer

The short-stay visa does not allow you to work or study in Spain. For stays over 90 days, or for work or study, you need a national visa or a residence permit. These are applied for at the Spanish consulate in Cambodia, and the rules differ from the short-stay visa.

If you plan to work or study, contact the consulate early. You may need additional documents, such as a job offer or university acceptance. The consulate will guide you through the process. Check the official Spanish immigration website for current requirements.
