Belizean citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or business. Apply at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in the country where you legally reside.

What the visa means

The Schengen short-stay visa permits travel within the Schengen area, which includes Spain and the other member states. For a trip to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera, the visa covers the entire stay on the islands. It does not allow work or study beyond short courses.

The visa is valid for the dates and number of entries specified on the sticker. Overstaying or working without permission can lead to fines or a ban from future Schengen travel. Check the visa conditions carefully before departure.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply for the visa well before your planned travel date. The application is submitted in person at the Spanish consulate or visa centre in your country of residence. You must provide a completed form, a valid passport, recent photographs, travel insurance, flight reservations and proof of accommodation.

At the Spanish border, present your passport with the visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay and a return ticket. The visa does not guarantee entry; the final decision rests with the border authority.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points for those islands. Formentera has no airport; travellers fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from Ibiza Town to La Savina. Mallorca may be used as a transit point via ferry or connecting flight.

On arrival, have your passport and visa ready for inspection. The islands are part of the Schengen area, so there are no internal border checks between them. Keep your visa documents accessible throughout your stay.

Staying longer, working or studying

A Schengen short-stay visa does not permit long-term stays, employment or full-time study. For stays exceeding 90 days, or for work or study, you must apply for a national visa (type D) or a residence permit from the Spanish consulate.

Check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain or the consulate for the specific requirements. The rules for national visas and permits are separate from the Schengen short-stay visa process.

How to apply

  1. Identify the Spanish consulate or visa centre in your country of residence.
  2. Book an appointment for the visa application.
  3. Prepare the required documents: application form, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and accommodation proof.
  4. Attend the appointment in person to submit documents and provide biometric data (fingerprints and photo).
  5. Wait for the decision; the consulate may request additional information or an interview.
  6. Collect the passport with the visa sticker if approved, then travel to Spain.
