Belarusian citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The visa allows stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Apply before travelling, at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in Belarus. Processing takes time, so plan ahead.
What the status means
A Schengen short-stay visa is required for Belarusian citizens entering Spain. This covers holidays on Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, as well as transit through mainland Spain or Mallorca. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all Schengen countries.
The requirement comes from EU Regulation 2018/1806, which lists Belarus among countries whose citizens need a visa. No special exemption or simplified procedure applies. You must apply in your country of residence, not at the Spanish border.
Before you travel and at the border
Apply at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Belarus. You will need a valid passport, a completed application form, recent photos, travel insurance, proof of accommodation and funds, and confirmed return travel plans. Biometric data are collected during the application.
At the border, carry your passport and the visa sticker. Border guards may ask for proof of your trip, such as hotel bookings or ferry tickets. The visa is valid for the dates shown; do not overstay. Check the official EU travel site for updates on entry rules.
Arriving on the islands
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive international flights, including from mainland Spain and other Schengen countries. Formentera has no airport. Fly to Ibiza, then take a ferry from the port to La Savina. Ferries run frequently in summer, less so in winter.
Mallorca is a common transit point. If you land there, you will clear Schengen entry before taking a connecting flight to Ibiza or Menorca. Keep your boarding passes and visa documents handy. For Formentera, the ferry from Ibiza is a domestic route, so no extra border checks apply.
Staying longer, working or studying
A short-stay visa does not allow work or study. For stays over 90 days, or for employment or courses, you need a national visa or residence permit. Apply at the Spanish consulate in Belarus before travelling. Requirements differ from the tourist visa.
Check the official Spanish consulate website for the correct procedure. The tourist visa cannot be extended for work or study purposes. Overstaying can lead to fines or a ban from the Schengen area. Plan your visa type according to your purpose.
