Bangladeshi citizens require a Schengen short-stay visa to enter Spain for tourism, including visits to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in Bangladesh. Plan ahead, as appointments and processing take time.

What the visa requirement means

A Schengen short-stay visa grants entry to Spain and the other Schengen countries for tourism, family visits or business trips. For Bangladeshi citizens, this visa is mandatory before travel. It permits a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. The visa is valid for the dates and number of entries specified on the sticker.

Without a valid visa, Bangladeshi passport holders are refused boarding and entry at the border. The visa does not allow work or study. Those planning to stay longer, work or study must apply for a national visa or residence permit from Spain. Check the official Spanish consulate website for the correct application type.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply for the visa well before your planned departure. The application is submitted at the Spanish consulate or its visa centre in Bangladesh. You must provide biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) in person. The consulate may request an interview. Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from Schengen and was issued within the previous ten years.

At the Spanish border, present your passport with the valid visa sticker. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return or onward tickets, travel insurance and sufficient funds for your stay. Carry printed copies of these documents. The visa does not guarantee entry; the final decision rests with the border authority.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) receive flights from mainland Spain and other European cities. Formentera has no airport. To reach Formentera, fly to Ibiza and take a ferry from the port of Eivissa to La Savina. The ferry crossing takes about 30 minutes. Ferries run year-round, but services reduce outside the summer season.

If your flight transits through Mallorca (Palma de Mallorca Airport, PMI), you enter Schengen there and pass through border control. You then take a domestic flight or ferry to Ibiza or Menorca. Ensure your visa covers the Schengen area for the entire trip. Check the official Aena website for flight schedules and the ferry companies for timetables.

Staying longer, working or studying

The Schengen short-stay visa does not permit work or study. For stays longer than 90 days, or for employment or study, apply for a Spanish national visa (long-stay visa) or a residence permit. These applications are made at the Spanish consulate in Bangladesh before travel. Each type has specific requirements and documentation.

For work, a job offer and a work permit from Spanish authorities are usually needed. For study, you need acceptance from a recognised institution. Check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain or the Spanish consulate for current procedures. Rules change, so verify before applying.
