Armenian citizens need a short-stay Schengen visa to enter Spain for tourism, including visits to Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Applications are made at the Spanish consulate or the visa centre it uses in the country where you live. Plan ahead, as appointments and processing take time.

What the visa means

A Schengen visa issued by Spain permits travel to all Schengen countries, including the Balearic Islands. The visa is valid for short stays: tourism, family visits or business meetings. It does not allow work or study. The maximum stay is 90 days in any 180-day period. Check your visa's validity dates and the number of entries allowed before you travel.

The visa is stamped in your passport. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, return flights and travel insurance. Keep copies of your visa and supporting documents with you. The rules are set by Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, which lists Armenia as a country whose nationals require a visa for Spain.

Before you travel and at the border

Apply for the visa well before your trip. The Spanish consulate or its authorised visa centre in your country of residence handles applications. You will need a completed form, a valid passport, recent photographs, travel insurance, flight reservations and proof of accommodation. Biometric data (fingerprints) are collected for most applicants.

At the border, present your passport with the valid visa. Border officers may ask for evidence of your travel plans, funds and insurance. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area and issued within the previous ten years. Check the current entry requirements before you fly.

Arriving on the islands

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and Menorca Airport (MAH) are the main entry points by air. Formentera has no airport: fly to Ibiza, then take a ferry from Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa to La Savina. Mallorca is a transit point for connecting flights or ferries; your visa covers the entire Schengen stay.

Ferries connect the islands year-round, though schedules reduce outside summer. When travelling between islands, carry your passport and visa. No additional checks apply within the Schengen area, but keep your documents accessible. The visa covers all Balearic Islands as part of Spain.

Staying longer, working or studying

A short-stay visa does not permit work or study. For longer stays, employment or academic courses, apply for a national visa (type D) or a residence permit before travelling. These are handled by the Spanish consulate in your country of residence. Check the official Spanish immigration website for current procedures.

Overstaying a Schengen visa can lead to fines or a ban. If you need to extend your stay for exceptional reasons, contact the immigration office in the province where you are staying. For work or study, start the application process months in advance, as requirements and processing times vary.

How to apply

  1. Determine the Spanish consulate or visa centre covering your country of residence.
  2. Book an appointment online or by phone as required by the consulate.
  3. Prepare the required documents: completed form, passport, photos, insurance, flight and accommodation proof.
  4. Attend the appointment to submit documents and provide biometric data (fingerprints).
  5. Wait for the visa decision; do not book non-refundable travel until approved.
  6. Collect your passport with the visa or have it delivered as arranged.
  7. Check the visa details (dates, entries) and travel within its validity.
